YOUTH PRESENTATION NIGHT

The St. Michael's Youth Presentation Night is taking place this coming Friday (27th January) at 7.30pm in the Derryhirk Inn. Everyone is welcome to come along.

SENIOR SCOR

The club are seeking members to take part in this years Senior Scor competitions, South Down heats will be held on either Friday 27th or Sunday 29th January, with venues, times etc. still to be confirmed.

So if you fancy representing the club in the quiz, recitation, solo singing, ballad groups, novelty act, set or ceilidh dancing, or part of an instrumental group then contact Thomas Hamill on 07901 815234

Congratulations to "Alpine Lodge" (Damien, Lynne and Roisin Catney and Davey McCabe on winning the Christmas Quiz in a close run contest and only decided in the final round.

St Michaels GAC Magheralin. Cul Camp Week  8-12 Aug 2011

Additional end of week Camp night  Fri 12 Aug  from 7.00 pm to Sat morning.

End this week of events with an over night camp.

Bring your tent, food and suitable clothing,for a night of fun for all the family.

 Activities include fun and games, indoor film night and end of evening camp

 fire with music and songs.

 Children to be accompanied all night by a parent or guardian, 

Bring your bbq packs and we provide equipment for cooking, or simply

come along with popcorn and lemonade for film night.

 Breakfast provided  Sat morning, 

 Price,  Included in cost for Cul Camp members.

 Non Cul Camp members   £2.00 per person.

Please confirm attendance with youth coaches or committee members.

MAGHERALIN MUSIC FESTIVAL 2011- WORKERS MEETING

A meeting for all voluntary festival staff will be held in Magheralin Parish Hall after 11:00 am mass on Sunday 12th June 2011. We would like as many volunteers as possible to share the workload.

Tickets are available after every weekend mass in Kilwarlin and Magheralin from now to festival dates. Tickets can also be obtained from committee members John Hamill, Brian McCabe, Eddie Mulgrew, Davy McCabe and Paddy McKeown. Tickets will guarantee entry and fast track into marquee on both Friday and Saturday nights as big crowds are expected.

LADIES RULE CHANGE

The flowing rule changes should be noted by all Clubs, Teams, Referees and Match Officials.

Amendment to Rule 496 at Congress 2011 as per below :

Rule 496

*      For the kick out from goal after a wide in all competitions the ball may be kicked from the hands or off the ground, from the thirteen metre line.  All players shall be at least thirteen metres from the ball until it is kicked.

*      The ball must cross the twenty metre line, before being played by another player.

*      Where another player offends, a free shall be awarded to the opposing team on the twenty metre line opposite, to where the foul occurred.

Rule 499

*      After a score, the Kick Out shall be taken from the 20 metre line in front of the goalposts. 

*      All players shall be at least thirteen metres from the ball until it is kicked.

DUCK DERBY ROUND-UP

A big thanks all who sponsored a duck, helped sell the ducks, helped on the day with the race. To all who made sandwiches supplied buns and biscuits. Faulkner Small for permitting access to his land. Everyone who helped out serving tea and sandwiches after the race and to Joe and Eddie Lavery for playing music and entertaining us. Thanks to everyone who helped out in anyway.

SPONSORED WALK

The Club are organising a Sponsored Walk around the Craigavon Lakes.  The walk will take place at 2.00pm on Sunday 30th January 2011.  The idea is that all those attending turn up wearing the club colours of red and white, be it club poloshirts, jersey's, hoodies etc. or maybe even fancy dress or red and white wigs.

The Club asks that anyone wishing to participate in the walk raises or donates the small amount of £10.  Refreshments will be served at the end of the walk to all participants.

BREACH OF GAA MEMBER DATABASE

Please take time to read the following letter received from Croke Park in relation to the recent breach of the GAA Member Database.

We are writing to advise you that Servasport Ltd., has informed the GAA that there has been unauthorised access to the GAA membership database.

Servasport  Ltd., a Belfast based company that develops and maintains the GAA membership database, has  issued an unreserved apology to the GAA and to our members.

 

The GAA became aware of the data breach when it was informed on the 19th November 2010 that disks containing the database had been received by the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner and the GPA, who immediately passed the disk to the GAA. The Information Commissioners Office in Belfast also received a disk.

ANDREW McCABE MEMORIAL BLITZ (U10)

On Saturday 2nd October, an enjoyable day of football was had by all who participated in the Andrew McCabe Memorial blitz for under 10's. 

In the cup competition, Clann Eireann defeated Downpatrick in a keenly contested final, with only one point between the sides in the end.  In the final of the shield, St. Mary's Aghagallon seen off the challenge of Tullylish.

In total, 8 teams from three different counties took part in the blitz.  These were:  St. Michael's; Tullylish; Downpatrick; Bredagh; Clann Eireann; Tir na nOg (Portadown); St. Mary's Aghagallon; and St. Patrick's Lisburn.

CUL DAY AT CROKE PARK

Last Monday, 27th September, John Paul McKeown was one of 300 young players from across Ireland to get a chance to play football at Croke Park.  The 300 players were randomly selected from the many thousands who participated in the Cul Camps this Summer across the whole country.  John Paul's manager for the day was the current Kildare manager and ex Armagh All Ireland winning captain, Kieran McGeeney.

St. Michael's GAC wishes James McCartan and the Down team the best of luck in tomorrows All Ireland Semi Final against Kildare.

    

To add to the excitement of the big match, a phonecall was made to the club at lunch time on Friday, to round up as many of our younger members as possible, for a last minute photocall.   Photos were published in Saturday's newspapers including The Irish News, Belfast Telegraph and The Irish Sun

ST. COLMAN'S NEWRY - 2010 HOGAN CUP WINNERS

Congratulations to Eamon Lynch who was part of the successful St. Colman's team that today won the Hogan Cup Final in Croke Park.  St. Colman's beat St. Brendan's, Killarney, on a scoreline of 1-18 to 3-5.    The St. Michael's club will also like to take this opportunity in congratulating Matthew McNiece on this success.

ST MICHAELS GOLF CLASSIC

Friday 2nd October at Edenmore.  Prizes galore including hotel breaks in County Donegal and a £5000 hole-in-one challenge on the 11th hole.  Refreshments available throughout the day.

Later on in the evening, starting at 9.30pm, there will be the prize giving followed by a buffet and disco - all in Edenmore Golf Club.

CATHERINE AND TERESA MARSDEN AMONGST THOSE TO RECEIVE GAELTEACHT GRANTS

Down GAA County Board have presented grants to 36 recipients from the 2009 Gaeltacht Grants Scheme. The grants have been awarded to school students (who are members of the GAA in Down) attending Irish Colleges/Courses in the summer of 2009.

LA NA GCLUB 125 CELEBRATIONS

 

On Sunday 10th May 2009, the members of St. Michael's GAC celebrated the 125th anniversary of Cumann Luthchleas Gael with a special day organised at the club.  Games were played throughout the day with both junior and senior members taking part, and all participants receiving a specially commissoned medal.  An exhibition was also on display in the club, showcasing the history of GAA in the Parish of Magheralin and Kilwarlin.  A special thanks goes to all those involved, participated and lent their personal possessions to the exhibition.

ANNACLONE 125 TOURNAMENT

On Sunday 3rd May, the Under 12's of St. Michael's GAC, took part in the Annaclone 125 tournament.

Christmas Party and Tyrone All-Ireland Winners at St. Michael's:

Sunday 7th December was a big day for the junior members of St. Michael's, when at their Christmas Party there were guest appearences from Colm Cavanagh and Ryan Mellon - All-Ireland Senior winners with Tyrone in 2008.  The two Tyrone players brought along with them the All-Ireland Senior and Minor trophies.  Another special visitor was non other than Santa.

SCOR Na nOg

Congratulations Declan Boyle.  Declan recently won the recitation competition at the Down County Final and will now go on and represent the club and the county at the Ulster Semi Final being held in Glengormley on Friday 12th December 2008 at 8.00pm.  Good luck Declan, the club wishes you well.
